Nic Clay-Michael
CLEAN WATER NETWORKS RESEARCH MANAGER
THAMES WATER RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, UK |
| |
|
|
Having studied Biotechnology at Reading University, Nic started working for Thames Water in 1989 providing Research Programming and Planning, Contract Research Management, Corporate Information and Competitive Intelligence
services.
He took on a full time permanent post with the company, some 5 years later in 1994 when he joined the Research and Development department as IT Exploitation Manager. This role built on earlier work and aimed to introduce new effective technologies and ways of working to the business whilst avoiding less helpful gadgets and gimmicks. Notable projects were: TW's first website in a time when the internet was not recognised as a mainstream business tool; the "office in a box" which allowed the quick set up of a "field" office in remote overseas locations using high-speed satellite communications and the technology demonstrations and behaviour research at the Millennium Dome.
Nic joined the Dwr Cymru Customer Services transition team in Cardiff, when TW won the five-year contact centre contract. Here he was able to use his welsh language skills to develop the company's communications and branding
strategies.
On his return, Nic moved into water infrastructure projects, starting with two projects to carry out an archaeological exhumation of two complete 150 year-old distribution mains in central London. A natural progression was to manage the role of Technical Investigations programme of research that supports or is supported by Thames Water's large scale Victorian Mains Replacement Programme. Since then, Nic has added leakage research to his portfolio and, more recently, completed the set with Trunk Mains research and the post of Clean Water Networks Research Manager.
