Paul Valleley

Director of Water Services

Anglian Water, UK

Paul is Anglian Water's Director of Water Services. He joined the business in 1990 with an Honours Degree in Geography with a specialisation in Environmental Impact Assessment. Having worked in operational areas for his entire career, Paul has been at the sharp end of both water and water recycling processes and has risen through the ranks in various leadership roles.

Paul has the responsibility of over 1200 people who supply clean safe water to more than six million customers in the Anglian region. From source to tap - abstraction, treatment and distribution to customer properties, this involves 138 water treatment works, over 400 reservoirs and towers and 38,000 kilometres of pipework.

As well as accountability for water quality, Paul is responsible for interruptions to supply and leakage targets for Anglian Water. The company is striving for a level of leakage reduction never seen before in the water industry in the UK, with a target of 172 Ml/d by 2020.

Paul is a big advocate of Water Aid and is a former Chairman of the Anglian Water WaterAid committee, helping to raise over £750,000 for the charity during his term.

Paul is currently President of the Eastern Area Committee of the Institute of Water. A firm believer in the benefits of continuing professional development he has recently achieved the status of Chartered Environmentalist with the IoW.
